19.11.2006 - Silicon has acquaired a government financing

Associated to IME (Instituto Militar de Engenharia - Militar Institute of Engineering) and PUC-Rio (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro - Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro), Silicon Strategy has achieved a financing of a project approved by RNP (Research National Network). The project was called Automatização de Diagnóstico e Recuperação de Falhas (Failures Recovery and Diagnosis Automation).

RNP Association, a non-profit civil institution, was instituted in 1999,at the end of the RNP Project, created in 1989 by CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico). In 2002, the federal government qualified RNP Association as a Social Organization.

The maintenance and updating of its network is made with resources from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT) and the Ministry of Education (ME), through a management contract between RNP Association and the MCT. Besides counting on public sponsoring, RNP, as a Priority Computer Science Program (Sepin/MCT), gets private resources by means of projects with computer science companies (Law number 8.248/91) and other organizations.

RNP operates the national infrastructure of advanced network for cooperation and communication on education and research. Besides interconnecting all the federal institutions of higher education and research, this network provides a laboratory for the experimental development of new applications and network services for the benefit of the organizations using it.

The Ipê Network, operated by RNP, is an advanced Internet infrastructure. It was financed by MCT and ME with the purpose of providing Brazilian academic and research community with a high-quality service, linking country networks and capital institutions, besides offering international links.

More than 250 institutions are connected to the Ipê Network. Almost every public institutions and research units are interconnected by this high-capacity network infrastructure. Other public and private academic institutions, like private universities, technical schools and hospitals compound the Ipê network users group.

Silicon Strategy is going to employ its main product, called STW, in this environment of innovation and stimulus to research. The STW acts as a network detection, diagnosis and recovery tool and is intended to be reinforced to be prepared to work in this network, providing support to RNP to assure a better way to deal with failures in its network.

Along 2007, Silicon, IME and PUC are going to work together to map network troubleshooting and recovery processes, document them and create the referring flowcharts in the tool.
